508 Are Omega 3 Nutraceuticals Effective in Temporomandibular Joint Disorder

Abstract Aim Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) osteoarthritis (OA) is a common type of arthritis that affects all ages. Currently conservative treatment 1st line for in the TMJ and surgical should only be considered as last resort. This study aims to assess whether nutraceuticals can provide any symptomatic relief OA. Method A total 10 studies were identified using electronic databases, no exclusion criteria applied. Inclusion consisted investigating effects Omega 3 their benefit role regulating inflammatory pathways osteoarthritis. We randomised controlled trials, systematic reviews, meta-analyses. Results Polysaturated fatty acids have inflammation due unique pro-resolving properties. The are clear highlighting omega supplementation patients suffering from OA will benefit. EPA seems most powerful modality achieving this there was an inverse dose response relationship when pain scores eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) concentration. Conclusions Omega-3 inexpensive option offered majority It used conjunction with analgesics possibly help reduce these. Based on available literature extrapolating data results similar disorders studies, it would reasonable suggest daily 3g 12 weeks effective arthritis.
